About

“Iconoclasm” is a group of three sculptures that explore the way History is defaced and refaced thru Hollywood and the mass media in our contemporary globalized society.

The artist took three screenshots depicting Cleopatra in three major peplums dating from the early 20ies to now and worked with a Copt iconographer to turn the images of the three American actresses in pharaonic costume into religious icones. She then printed each icone into 14 wood panels and altered the face of these 20 century icones by making a gradually bigger hole on their face starting from the nose - creating a optical effect of excavation of the original flat image.
